Specific gravesites at a Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery cannot be reserved in advance. At the time of need, the next of kin should obtain services from a local funeral home. To request burial, the funeral director should call the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery office while the next of kin is present.
Before scheduling the burial, the cemetery staff must determine eligibility. Fax any documents requested by the cemetery staff to the cemetery fax number. The burial will be scheduled after eligibility has been established. The same procedure is followed if an eligible dependent predeceased the qualifying veteran.
Burial services are scheduled on business days only, Monday through Friday, excluding State holidays. Every effort will be made to accommodate the next of kin and the funeral director’s wishes as scheduling permits.
Interment Costs
There is no cost for burial at a Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery, unless the next of kin elects not to use a state provided double depth grave liner. The next of kin may choose to purchase a grave liner in place of the state provided grave liner that has been placed inside the gravesite. If the casket is oversize and a larger grave liner is needed, the next of kin will need to purchase a grave liner to accommodate the oversize casket and placement of the grave-liner. A grave liner supplied as part of a prepaid burial plan will be reviewed and every effort to meet the terms of the prepaid plan within existing cemetery guidelines will be made.
Assignment of Gravesites
Gravesites are assigned prior to the scheduled interment. The next available in-ground gravesite or niche on the columbarium wall is assigned without regard to rank, color, creed, or gender of the eligible service member or dependent.
