Superintendent

Steve DunkinIn March 2008, Stephen Dunkin was selected as the Superintendent of the Kansas Soldiers’ Home at Fort Dodge, Kansas.  Mr. Dunkin was born in Higgins, Texas.  He graduated from Stafford High School, Stafford, Kansas, in 1962, from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma, in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science Degree.  After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force.  During the four years in USAF Security Service, he was stationed at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas, Goodfellow AFB, San Angelo, Texas, Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan, and McGuire AFB, New Jersey.  He served as an analyst with a top secret crypto security clearance.  Upon discharge in 1970, he returned to Oklahoma.  Mr. Dunkin used the educational benefit and received a Master in Business Administration from Central State University, Edmond, Oklahoma, in 1981.

Mr. Dunkin has been associated with the healthcare industry since 1983.  He has been in senior leadership positions with a Human Resource background in four different acute care hospitals in three different states.  In 1998, he obtained an Adult Care Home Administrator License in Kansas.  He has been an Administrator in six Kansas nursing homes.

In 1989, the Dunkin family moved to the Kansas City area.  His wife, Mary, is a professional educator.  She has her own entrepreneurial business preparing pre-med college students to take the Medical College Admissions Test.  Steve and Mary were married in 1967.  They have two sons, Chris and Matt.  Chris, a physician, and family live in Niwot, Colorado, and Matt, an engineer, lives in Mission, Kansas.
